Ruth comes to us with her Bachelor of Science Music Education from the University of Alabama!  She’s a woman of few words but did share that she is a native Alabamian (?) and a few of her hobbies include camping and winning the lotto!   We’re thrilled to have her back on our teaching staff after a timely sabbatical!  Welcome back, Ruth!

CARLITO RICHARDSON

Flute, Clarinet  & Saxophone

Charles “Carlito” Richardson started his professional music career in 1971-75 as actor and musician with the Black Music Workshop under the direction of  Phil Cohnan.  In 1977 Carlito enrolled in the Music Education Department, Chicago State University, on a talent scholarship in Music Theory.  While at Chicago State, Carlito played clarinet, saxophone, and flute in the concert and jazz band, studied jazz improvisation with internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist and recording artist Vernice “Bunky” Green.  He graduated in 1981 and received his B.S. Degree in Music Education (Cum Laude). Carlito has played extensively with such names as Winton Marsalis, Pop Staples and the Staples Singers and Tito Puente. He has also taught for the Chicago Public Schools system.  He went back to school and obtained an endorsement to teach special education classes which he did at Amundsen High School.  He worked with the drama and music department in the production of several plays and musicals.  In 1999, Carlito moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and taught music at  private school, New Horizons Academy, K-12.  He played saxophone and flute with the Toto Zara Band at the Paris Hotel and Casino.  He was also leader of his own jazz duo, Winds and Rhythm.  Carlito moved St. Petersburg, FL in 2002 where he is currently teaching school at Center Academy, along with performing with David Whispell in Blended Winds.
