Jay Shull
Bass, Guitar, Saxophone

Jay Shull has been with the Bringe School of Music since August of 2008, teaching guitar, bass, voice, and woodwinds. Jay is also the director and arranger for our jazz program, featuring several youth ensembles and an explorers group for younger musicians. Jay grew up in northern New England, coming to Florida in 2001 after studying at Bridgewater State College (now Bridgewater State University) in Massachusetts. Prior to joining the staff at the Bringe School, he taught ast Adams Pianos in Tampa and Funky Music in St. Pete. Jay also worked for the groundbreaking Prodigy Arts program, a partnership with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, that uses arts education to teach life skills to at-risk youth. Currently, Jay is the worship leader at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Snell Isle. He plays guitar and sings with his band, II Psalms (Bringe Music salesguy, Sergio, is also a member of the group). In addition, Jay volunteers at the John Hopkins Middle School Center for the Arts, working with the jazz classes there. Jay is a devoted family man and lives happily here in St. Pete with his lovely wife, Stefanie, a talented local artist, and their daughter Ansley, and their menagerie of pets (at last count, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 4 chickens, a dozen fish, and a rabbit!)

McLean Baran
Bass, Guitar

McLean began his musical journey playing piano at age 5, and music has been a central part of his life ever since.  He began branching out to different instruments in high school, where he learned guitar, bagpipes, bass, banjo, and ukulele.  He continued his studies at the University of Pennsylvania, where he minored in music.  In colllege, he was a member of many musical groups, including the Penn Glee Club, the Penn Jazz combos, and various other cover bands.  He currently can be seen around town playing banjo and bagpipes in "Paddy O'Furniture," an Irish-blue grass band!

Michael Godwin
Bass, Guitar

Michael's musical roots were seeded at a young age by his father, Walter, a 6th generation Floridian.  He began playing the banjo at the age of thirteen and continued to study a wide range of instruments and styles.  Today, Michael teaches and plays multiple instruments including banjo, guitar, mandolin, and bass.  Throughout high school, he performed with local bluegrass bands and toured with the Suncoast Sound Drum & Bugle Corps.  Then, Michael studied trombone and low brass with Dr. James Roberts at Jacksonville State University where he received his Bachelors of Science in Music Education.  Michael's musical journey has led him to perform and teach with numberous acts and schools.  His teaching career spans from the public to private sector and includes students of all ages.  He has taught at Sandy Lane Elementary, Bloomfield Montessori, Gadsden High School, The Bluegrass Shop and Modern Music Workshop.  His performance highlights include The Marching Southerners, Bob Hope Show band, Vassar Clements, Bill Monroe, The Bohemian Swingers and the Chabo Brothers.  Locally, he performs with Ramblegrass and Gypsy Wind.  Currently, Michael has ventured into the realm of music recording, engineering and editing.  Recently, he produced Gypsy Wind's latest CD "Songs from the Grove".  In his spare time, he enjoys sharing sunsets on Indian Rocks Beach with his children, Grace and Shawn.  



Amber Pipkin

Amber joined our team of School of Music educators in 2004. She has been teaching guitar for 14 years and counting. Amber studied classical and jazz guitar at St Petersburg College and the University of Tampa, where she earned her Bachelor's degree. She enjoys continuing her studies of various styles of music including classical, jazz, rock/pop, improvisation, and much more. Amber's current projects include learning studio recording techniques and Christian songwriting with her husband Tal, who is also a musician. She also plays bass guitar in a local worship band. When music isn't taking her time, Amber's other hobbies are cycling and hiking.
