Jay Shull
Bass, Guitar, Saxophone

Jay Shull has been with the Bringe School of Music since August of 2008, teaching guitar, bass, voice, and woodwinds. Jay is also the director and arranger for our jazz program, featuring several youth ensembles and an explorers group for younger musicians. Jay grew up in northern New England, coming to Florida in 2001 after studying at Bridgewater State College (now Bridgewater State University) in Massachusetts. Prior to joining the staff at the Bringe School, he taught ast Adams Pianos in Tampa and Funky Music in St. Pete. Jay also worked for the groundbreaking Prodigy Arts program, a partnership with the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice, that uses arts education to teach life skills to at-risk youth. Currently, Jay is the worship leader at St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Snell Isle. He plays guitar and sings with his band, II Psalms (Bringe Music salesguy, Sergio, is also a member of the group). In addition, Jay volunteers at the John Hopkins Middle School Center for the Arts, working with the jazz classes there. Jay is a devoted family man and lives happily here in St. Pete with his lovely wife, Stefanie, a talented local artist, and their daughter Ansley, and their menagerie of pets (at last count, 2 dogs, 2 cats, 4 chickens, a dozen fish, and a rabbit!)

Karen Harding
Bassoon, Cello

Karen has her B.S. in Psychology from Springfield College and has played and taught music for a number of years.  She began on the flute in elementary school and played clarinet and bass clarinet in band through high school.  She took a hiatus of several years following college but resumed playing in small group settings, including a 3-piece off-Broadway pit band, a 300 member marching band, various wind ensembles, community, pit, and dance bands.  After moving to Gulfport in 2001, she studied bassoon with Mark Sforzini and continues to study cello and piano with Christine Hartley.  She played the bassoon with the Pinellas Park Civic Orchestra from 2009 until switching to the cello in 2014.  She currently plays with the Suncoast Symphony in Clearwater on the upright bass, the Musical Chairs String Ensemble on cello, and since 2002 with the "Nostalgics," a 9-piece local Dixie-type combo on electric bass.  Most recently, she's added the New Horizons Band of Gulfport on the bass clarinet.

Carlito Richardson
Woodwinds, Clarinet, Saxophone

Charles "Carlito" Richardson started his professional music career in 1971-75 as actor and musician with the Black Music Workshop under the direction of Phil Cohnan. In 1977 Carlito enrolled in the Music Education Department, Chicago State University, on a talent scholarship in Music Theory. While at Chicago State, Carlito played clarinet, saxophone, and flute in the concert and jazz band, studied jazz improvisation with internationally acclaimed jazz saxophonist and recording artist Vernice "Bunky" Green. He graduated in 1981 and received his B.S. Degree in Music Education (Cum Laude). Carlito has played extensively with such names as Winton Marsalis, Pop Staples and the Staples Singers and Tito Puente. He has also taught for the Chicago Public Schools system. He went back to school and obtained an endorsement to teach special education classes which he did at Amundsen High School. He worked with the drama and music department in the production of several plays and musicals. In 1999, Carlito moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, and taught music at private school, New Horizons Academy, K-12. He played saxophone and flute with the Toto Zara Band at the Paris Hotel and Casino. He was also leader of his own jazz duo, Winds and Rhythm. Carlito moved St. Petersburg, FL in 2002 where he is currently teaching school at Center Academy, along with performing with David Whispell in Blended Winds.
